Meditation and Identity

October Faithshare

This will be held on

Wednesday 10th October 2018

Time : 7:30pm – 9:00pm

Where: Room 1, Friends Meeting House, Meeting House Lane, Lancaster

This month we are looking at the practice of Meditation and what we mean by that in our tradition. It can mean a simple mindfulness practice – to be aware of the moment and to let go of clinging to any sense of identity. Alternatively it can mean meditation on something in order to focus our attention on a particular subject. For this session it is being suggested that we focus on Identity.

Is Identity important in your faith? Is it important to you that you are a member of a particular church or belief system? Also tied in with identity is relationship. Is relationship more important to you than identity? Are your companions along the path the reason you keep going? Perhaps your relationship to a divine being is more important to you than anything else.

Alternatively, letting go of all sense of identity, self and relationships to others may be an important part of your chosen path? Perhaps clinging to your own self-importance is what you are trying to let go of?

Hope you can join us and bring along your own understanding to share with others..

As usual Teas and other Hot Drinks will be available and Donations will be accepted towards the cost of the room.

This will be held on

Tuesday 11th September 2018

Time : 7:30pm – 9:00pm

Where: Room 2, Friends Meeting House, Meeting House Lane, Lancaster

This month we begin a new series of discussions with a look at the purpose of pilgrimage. Have you ever been on a pilgrimage yourself? Did it help develop your faith? Did it develop relationships with other believers? Did it temporarily move you away from the mundane in your life?

Perhaps you have never been on a pilgrimage. Would you like to? Where would you choose to go?

Certain pilgrimage sites in the world are now being threatened by changes in climate. How is this likely to effect the future of pilgrimage for your family and fellow believers? What can be done about it?

Hope you can join us.

As usual Teas and other Hot Drinks will be available and Donations will be accepted towards the cost of the room.

Cultures from all over the world describe how we chose the pre-birth agreements before entering this world, including Africa, India, Tibet, Greece, and Native American peoples.

Everyone welcome, whether you have specific ideas derived from your own tradition or just have your own personal views or even memories of a previous life.

Refreshments provided – donations towards the cost of the room welcome.

Candles and Light

This will be held on

Thursday 14th December 2017

Time : 7:30pm – 9:00pm

Where: Room 1, Friends Meeting House, Meeting House Lane, Lancaster

We wanted to choose a theme that was associated with the season of goodwill to all men (and women!) and yet was not exclusively Christian. Hopefully all faiths make use of Candles and Light within their ceremonies at this time of year so if you could find something to discuss and share with us along these lines that would be wonderful. If not, then just bring yourself along and be prepared to join in the discussions of others.

Hope you can join us.

As usual Teas and other Hot Drinks will be available and Donations will be accepted towards the cost of the room.

Come and join us to discuss the influence that light has had on your life and listen to others share their experiences from around the world.
